I feel like I get stuck using terms like 'mental health' and 'mental illness' a lot just so people will know what I'm talking about. But there are some great alternatives I'd like to help spread around! Words shape our perceptions of ourselves and others. This comic is just my take on things and YMMV, but personally, I'm in favor of using words to describe myself that don't imply I'm sick or broken. Drawing is how I get by. It's how I prove to myself, again and again, that I can put one foot in front of the other. It is how I remind myself I am capable, even when everything feels like it's falling apart. And it's a small miracle - even a simple doodle, and suddenly All Is Not Lost. Suddenly the day is brighter. Suddenly I remember my worth. Someday maybe I'll remember my worth without having to be productive to get there.
